City Council Honors Deputies

Full Description:

Each year the Rancho Santa Margarita Sheriff’s Deputies select a peer who has provided exemplary service and honor that individual with the distinction of “Deputy of the Year”.  Special Enforcement Team Deputies, Jack Ackerman and Jason Finley are this year’s distinguished recipients and were recently honored by the Rancho Santa Margarita City Council.

Deputies Ackerman and Finley have served together on the Special Enforcement Team since November 2008.  They have immersed themselves in the investigation of crimes involving narcotics, gangs, theft, burglary, robbery, graffiti, registered sex offenders and more.  Their knowledge, commitment and willingness to assist others have led to numerous commendations from the Sheriff’s Department as well as other agencies.

This designation is particularly gratifying because it represents peer review at its finest, and reflects the dedication, professionalism and body of work for an entire year.

“Deputies Ackerman and Finley continue to involve themselves in new and specialized activities on a daily basis and regularly work outside the normal duties and hours,” shares Lieutenant Stacey Taylor, Chief of Police Services for the City of Rancho Santa Margarita. “While the hours they work are long and often change at a moment’s notice, they continue to do their work with eagerness and dedication.”

Also recognized by the City Council was Investigative Assistant Ann Guba.  Based on her reputation for excellence, knowledge and a commitment to service, Guba was selected by her peers and supervisors to receive the American Legion Award for Merit for 2009.

Guba has worked for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department as an Investigative Assistant for the past six years supporting the cities of Rancho Santa Margarita and Aliso Viejo, and the Unincorporated areas of the County. One of her recent accomplishments includes a case of a break-in at Tesoro High School in which several students changed their grades and those of other students.  As a result of Guba’s hard work and dedication, the individuals involved were identified.

“Ann is a well respected member of Orange County Sheriff’s Department,” says Lieutenant Taylor.  “She exemplifies professionalism, commitment, determination and enthusiasm.”
